Cocktail Rings have only been a recent focus at AG and the thought to develop a range was that they would make a colourful and timely compliment to the engagement rings and wedding rings that we create. I have to admit that I am blown away by the popularity and success this new arm of the business is having! The great thing about designing and making Cocktail Rings or Right Hand Rings as they are sometimes called, is that it gives me a chance to show off! Big stones, bold colours, flamboyant settings, unfamiliar cuts – all these are a dream for a designer like me who likes to push boundaries but naturally stay within commercial or should we say saleable limits.
Our first and rather modest cocktail ring in the collection was the suitably named Fission Cocktail. This ring saw 8mm round and square Optix Cut stones set in a signature AG setting. Nothing too adventurous here but as you would expect perfectly designed and made. The Optix Cut makes use of concave faceting gives more light and life to the stone.
The Celestial was an expression of my growing confidence in ring design and this design was and still is adored by my retail partners and customers alike. The sheer impact a one centimetre sphere of gemstone has is breathtaking especially when framed with diamonds. We have even had people wearing this as an unusual engagement ring!
The Mohawk and Mohican were the next in the Cocktail Ring generation. Tahitian Pearltastic I hear you cry? Contemporary twists on pearl designs with accent diamonds highlighting the forms. We have heard these described as iconic which for any designer is music to our ears!
Satellites were next. I don’t need to say much about these as I believe the form does all the talking. We started with round stones, then to squares and possibly marquis next! – watch this space.
So that brings us to December 2012. What is next in the AG Right Hand Ring collective? Well I will tell you but I will not show you… yet. The Chocolate Box will be launched in February 2012 and this promises to be a colourful yet discordant delight.
